Chiaroscuro is an Italian term which means light-dark and it has been used in art, cinematography and photography to stunning effect. In order to achieve it, something called Rembrandt Lighting is used. Yeah, a reference to that guy from Holland. Here is how it is done, accompanied by some wonderful examples.
